The aim of the OZEV EV Chargepoint grant is to help offset the upfront cost of switching to an EV. The grant provides 75% (up to £350) towards the cost of installing EV chargers for a specific group of applicants:
LandlordsEligible vehicles include all full-battery electric vehicles, but plug-in hybrid vehicles must have CO2 emissions calculated to be under 50g/km. To claim the grant, the procedure differs based on whether you live in a house or a flat, but in both cases, you must claim before the installation of your home charger. Homeowners are no longer eligible to apply for an OZEV grant.
Battery electric vehicles, or BEVs, use electricity stored in a battery pack to power an electric motor and turn the wheels. When depleted, the batteries are recharged using grid electricity, either from a wall socket or a dedicated charging unit.
How much does it cost to charge an electric car at at a charging point?From home charging your electricity bill will show this cost – on average it will be between 10-34 pence. To fill up, if you look at petrol being 160p per litre, electricity will be between 10-34p pence per kWh.
Is it cheaper to charge an electric car at home?Home charging is generally cheaper than public charging, so the savings could be even more significant. However, when you consider 80% of electric car owners charge at home – according to BP Chargemaster – this is the most common scenario for the majority of EV motorists.
